Respect for the national flag is respect for the country – Police warns Ugandans | luostep


 

Police have cautioned the public against the widespread misuse of the national flag, saying ignorance of the does not excuse violation.

Rusoke Kituuma, the police spokesperson said the police have observed widespread misuse of the Uganda flag, particularly during the political activities. 

He made the remark while addressing journalists on Monday, December, 29, 2025 during the joint weekly security briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Kampala. 

“Many citizens are ignorant about the proper use of the national flag, and it is our duty to sensitise the public before emphasising enforcement,” – he said.

He cited incidents where the national flag was hung on electric poles and used without authorization, describing such act as disrespectful and unlawful. 

He explained that government institutions observes strict protocols in handling in the flag and lowering it during rain and storing it properly to protect it as a national symbol.
